How to stop fast fashion

What is Fast fashion? Fast fashion is a term used by retailers such as Adidas, BooHoo and H&M, to describe clothes or trends that are quickly in and out of style. The idea behind fast fashion, is for retailers to sell as many clothes as possible, as quickly as possible. The need for clothes to be produced quickly, is so great that retailers are often seen 'stealing' clothes ideas from other brands and making them their own. Why is Fast fashion bad? Retailers often use cheap labour, which normally comes in the form of sweatshops. People who have to work in sweatshops, are often made to work ridiculously long hours for ridiculously small amount of money. They often have no rights in the workplace such as maternity leave or allocated breaks. The products are often poorly made, which means we end up throwing them away in half the time! I’m sure we have all multiple purchases, which resulted in the tops or pairs of jeans we brought to last 2 or 3 weeks. The seams come...

Why marine life is so important!

The ocean covers 70% of the earth and is home to the largest mammals in the world. Marine life are a critical part of our eco system. Over fishing and destruction of habitats is evident and sadly this isn't something we can undo. What is the Marine Eco-system? We all know that there is a cycle in which everything needs to survive. This is an eco-system. Marine life starts with the plants, these are things such as as seaweed, algae and sea grasses. These plants are eaten by insects or animals from within the ocean, which are then eaten by other animals, which are then eaten by other animals until we get to the animals at the top of the food chain. Having this cycle allows animals to breed and for us to also take what we need to live and reproduce. We are impacting their eco-system by taking more then we should. We are over fishing which means tuna for example can't reproduce enough fish to cover the amount we have taken let alone the amount that they loose to natur...

9 easy changes to live sustainably

With Earth day being in April I have decided to dedicate this month to being Eco friendly and living more sustainably. In this post I am going to give you 9 easy changes you can make, that will make your life more sustainable. You never know you may also save yourself some money. I will just mention that I am not living a 100% sustainable lifestyle, but I am making the changes to make sure I am as sustainable as I can be. Why do I need to be sustainable? Gobal warming is getting worse and the ice caps are melting. The sea is being filled with plastic and deforestation is happening so greatly, that animals are becoming extinct from not having habitats to live in! 1. Make your travel greener! This is something that has been drilled into me, since I was at school. This looks at different ways that you can travel, instead of relying on your car. There are the obvious options such as walking, cycling and public transport. However, not everyone has the option to walk...

How to achieve a zero waste lifestyle

What is Zero waste? Zero waste is the process of reducing the amount of rubbish, we send to landfill; and making sure we reuse as much as we can. Zero waste as a lifestyle has been around for years, but was commonly referred to as something 'hippies' did. It has since been something a lot of people have been eager to embrace, after Blue Planet II aired an episode in 2017 which showed the amount of plastic in our oceans and how it, is affecting our marine life. [ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IW3jEIYBFzg ] Why Zero Waste? The average UK household produces more than a tonne of waste each year! In total this equals to the whole country producing 31 Million tonnes per year. As a result, each year over 1 Million marine animals are killed due to plastic debris.
